L'Albergo della Regina Isabella *****L
International stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, William Holden and Maria Callas , Italian legends, like Alberto Sordi , various nobles from all over Europe and leading figures from the worlds of art and culture have walked down the corridors and in the rooms of Regina Isabella.
It was the 1950s when the editor and cinematographic producer Angelo Rizzoli fell in love with Ischia, its nature, thermal water and Greek and Roman remains and it was precisely on top of these remains, in Lacco Ameno, next to the church of Saint Restituta and the archaeological museum, that he decided to found a hotel and spa complex ; in fact, this place was so splendid that, for the following decades, it attracted famous artists, politicians and show people.
Today, the charm, high profile and elegance of the Regina Isabella Hotel , which distinguished it right from the beginning, still goes untouched and the hotel offers its guests very precise services and furnishings, a large choice of rooms , a spa , restaurants that are second to none and active participation in the cultural life of the island.
The thermal waters of the volcanic island of Ischia have been noted for centuries because of their benefits for our health, so much so that the Romans chose this splendid place, which is caressed by the waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea, as one of their favourite spots. In more recent times, the muds and waters of Ischia have been studied by names such as the Nobel prize winning Marie Curie and these waters, which flow out of the springs at 80°, belong to the salt, sulphate, bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium categories.
Regina Isabella’s spa makes the most out the waters’ salutary properties, which are known to be multi-active, by using them in technological and scientific medical research. What is more, each guest is followed by a member of the spa staff and this, together with the medical team, helps to create a customised programme for everyone.
There are more than 50 treatments available, including aesthetic, health, relaxation and beauty treatments, thanks to the spa’s philosophy of looking for the perfect balance and harmony between the body, mind and spirit.
The hotel boasts a large number of spaces and 128 rooms and suites and each space has its own distinctive detail distinguishing it from others. The Standard facilities , which can be found in every room, are air conditioning , satellite television , a safe box , mini bar , telephone with international dialling and a connection to ADSL internet in the room, whereas WiFi from the local area can be used on the balconies. The suites have more facilities, of course, and the Imperial Suite , the hotel’s best suite, expands over 320m² , without counting the terraces and balconies, and it has a sea view, private swimming pool with hydromassage points and the possibility to choose from thermal, salt or fresh water.
The combination of fresh fish, one of the best traditions in the Italian cuisine, and the wellness principles expected of a spa ensure that the food offered by the hotel is tasty, healthy and wholesome , and it is accompanied by a rich and extensive wine list, including both Italian and international wines. In additionti the restaurant Sporting , there is the Indaco Restaurant. This restaurant takes its name from the colour of Ischia’s sea and it is an outdoor gourmet restaurant that has been entrusted to top chefs and their creativity, and these chefs take it in turns to produce the menu for guests. At present, the kitchen is being run by chef Pasquale Palamaro.
Some of the hotel’s services and facilities:
Ischia is not only about spas , it is also rich in seaside, archaeological and cultural tourism . The archaeological and historic repertoire is very rich (interesting finds have been preserved and can be admired at the Villa Arbusto Archaeological Museum in Lacco Ameno, which is where Regina Isabella Hotel is also located) but the island’s main attraction is the Aragonese Castle , which lies in the centre of a fortified citadel on an island opposite the town of Ischia Porto, which it is connected to via a bridge. This castle was used for many years as a refuge for the population when they underwent frequent attacks from corsairs.
Ischia, the biggest of the Phlegrean Islands in the Gulf of Naples, along with Procida and Vivara, is linked to the capital city of the Campania region via an efficient ferry service, as well as to other places, particularly in the summer months, like Capri and Procida .
If you have enough time, a trip to the Amalfi Coast is a must. This coast line is approximately 50 kilometres long and runs from Vietri to Positano , passing through towns like Cetara , Ravello and Amalfi , and it is, by and large, one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. Not far from Naples is the Vesuvius National Park and here you can climb up to the peak of the volcano and admire a landscape that includes the Gulf of Gaeta, the Sorrentine peninsula and Capri. The archaeological sites Paestum and Pompeii are also easily reached from the capital city of Campania.
